World Hijab Day – 2025 in Busia County

post world hijab day

Muslim women all over the world are proudly and powerfully commemorating World Hijab Day today 1st February.

World Hijab Day is an annual event that was created to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab. It is also a day to celebrate diversity and stand up against discrimination. The event was started by one woman named Nazma Khan, not a group of women. And it has spread over 150 countries.

The goal of World Hijab Day is to create a more understanding and tolerant world for Muslim women. There is often a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding surrounding the hijab, and this day provides an opportunity for non-Muslim women to learn more about it. It is also a chance for Muslim women to feel empowered and proud of their choice to wear the hijab

The hijab is not just a piece of cloth – it is much more than that. It is a way of life that teaches us modesty, patience, and humility. Wearing the hijab reminds us of our commitment to Allah (SWT) and our determination to follow His guidance as He commanded.

Speaking in Busia County commissioner Hadija who is the patron PHF was concerned that Despite Parliament passing a motion to allow Muslim girls to wear hijab at school, some schools in western Kenya still prohibit Muslims girls wearing hijab at school which has contributed to some girls dropping out of school, others being mocked and punished in schools for wearing hijab. It is due to this background that we mark the day as an awareness campaign with stakeholders on the importance of allowing Muslim girls wear hijabs in school as well as donated more than 2000 hijabs for students. She said they will continue talking to all stakeholders to understand the importance of our students being allowed to wear hijab in schools.

She said that the ministry of education did a circular to schools to allow Muslim students to wear hijab yet some schools are still denying them, she advised parents to bring to the attention of eh ministry of education those schools that do not allow girls wearing hijab in schools for the ministry to take action.

She urged everyone to continue marking this day every year by educating other to dispel myths and misconception about hijab and donate a hijab to at least someone who lacks on this day.
